We, employees of the University of Fribourg, wish to share our concern about the recent evolution of the University, as much in its internal way of functioning as in its relationship with the State. As the budgetary envelop allocated by the canton is insufficient, we’ve learnt that this gap is to be filled by the students and PhD students.
We express our support to the students and PhD students which positioned and mobilised themselves against the tax increase;
We affirm our commitment to a University as a place of knowledge and debate, and wish to contribute actively to the discussions about its future; we believe that an urgent debate must be held on the role and importance of the University for Society;
We ask the State Council (Conseil d’État) to support a University which brings an intellectual influence to Fribourg, which gives life to the city and the canton of Fribourg, and whose economic, social and cultural benefits are invaluable;
We ask the Rectorate to make every possible effort to strengthen the University by engaging in strong discussions with the State Council to obtain the means to finance the formations offered at the University and to contribute to the development of research.
